We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service: Hype or Hot
By Cal
The long-awaited album by A Tribe Called Quest, We Got it From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service, came 18 years after their last release: The Love Movement. It was released on November 11, 2016 by Epic Records; 8 months after one member, Phife Dawg, passed away. The album features appearances from an eclectic mix of artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Elton John, and Kanye West. The reason for the delay is relationship issues between the group. It’s their second record ever to reach the Billboard 200 and received wide critical acclaim. The title was created by Phife Dawg before he died and even though Tribe doesn't understand the meaning they kept it in place to honor Phife.
My favorite track off We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service is “Dis Generation” which features Busta Rhymes. My favorite line is “Talk to Joey, Earl, Kendrick, and Cole, gatekeepers of flow. They are extensions of instinctual soul. It's the highest in commodity grade.” Q-Tip is saying that in this age where rap seems to be mass produced and artificial these few artists (Joey Bada$$, Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole) are keeping true rap alive by putting their soul into their music.
We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service is a refreshing break from the overly-manufactured rap of today. It has witty lyrics and a killer beat so if you have time I would advise you to check it out.

Cokie Roberts Shines a Spotlight on our Founding Mothers

“We the people.” That was part of the first line of the Constitution. But it’s not really what the writers meant. Because at that time, “We the people,” probably meant, “We the men”. All the writers were men and many of the important people in history were men. Because women weren’t the generals or the politicians they were often ignored by the people of the time and the people of today. When Cokie Roberts wrote Founding Mothers the Women Who Raised Our Nation and then turned it into a picture book for younger people, she attempted to change that.     When I got the chance to interview her, she said that one of the hardest parts of writing Founding Mothers was finding what the important ladies of the time actually said. Lots of them wrote journals and letters, but often times these were burned, sometimes by the women themselves. As President Truman said to his wife when he saw her burning their letters to each other, “Bess, what are you doing; think of h...

History of "Black Friday" By Odessa

The day after the day for giving thanks and appreciation we have the retail phenomenon known as “Black Friday”. Black Friday is notorious and I wanted to take a closer look on how it make a national day in America. The term “Black Friday” was first used in a financial crisis 1869 with the unraveling of gold conspiracy. People have also said that Black Friday is called what it is and when it is, because retail companies used to record their profit in red and black. The whole year would be in a loss, until the day after thanksgiving where it would go black, because of the splurges on discounted items, but this is proved to be untrue. Another untrue story is that in the 1800s, the plantation owners could buy discounted slaves the day after Thanksgiving. This makes the holiday rather messy and repelling, however this was not proved either. It began in Philadelphia in the 50’s, the police described the hordes of people that flowed in the city for the big football game, because...
